THE GATHERING To Perform At Germany's POPKOMM Convention

July 25, 2006

THE GATHERING drummer Hans Rutten has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"We will participate at the German's Popkomm [convention] this year, playing in Berlin the 22nd of September 2006. Hope you all will be there, as our German actions are rare these days. We hope to play more in 2007, as we are in the middle of a change in Germany. This time it has nothing to do with soccer.

"Right now we are in the middle of summer touring, playing at weekends, getting all dirty, sweaty and tired, long drives, waiting for planes, etc. It could be worse, like last weekend in Italy. When we played the Evolution festival the American band ATHEIST literally fell throught the stage and broke his expensive bass guitar. Half an hour later, after the show, their guitar player bumped his head against the big iron eagle used as a show atrribute for headliners SAXON. He needed medical attention. It was disturbing and also quite 'Spinal Tap'. Hope both guys are doing well. The heat is capturing us all.

"We all enjoy playing the festivals. It is good to see some old friends and bands, drinking a beer and have a good chat about soccer and everything else what's wrong in this world. Hope to see you all at the remaining festivals and the upcoming club gigs. No big glow-in-the-dark eagle, no Eddie, but a good show, lots of oldies and some new songs from our album 'Home' as well.

"We are busy to schedule some gigs in Greece this year, we will play in Turkey end of November, and we are planning some new Dutch shows the end of this year as well. We all fell deeply in love with all the South American countries, so you they can expect a visit in 2007 as well!"

THE GATHERING are back on the road in Europe after they had to cancel the first month of their European "Homelands" tour back in April due to vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen suffering an obstinate bronchial and sinus infection. The original tour dates — April 19, 2006 to May 28, 2006 — have been rescheduled for September and October this year.

THE GATHERING released their latest album "Home" in April on The End Records.
